Sometimes Android doesn't refresh immediately Gallery and, in some cases, in order to have it updated you need to restart the device. However, if you want to immediately get your mosaic, it is sufficient to proceed as suggested in FAQ N.17
Depending on the mosaic type that you created, loading might take from a few seconds to tens of seconds (see also "View Mosaics" section in "Help" menu of the App).If loading doesn’t start the first time, please, be patient or re-try (or do as suggested in FAQ N.17 and transfer the mosaic file into your PC to easily open it)
If some parameter is set to an invalid value, in the next execution the App restores default values. If you are sure that parameters are correct, please send us the configuration which produce this anomaly.
It might be simply a problem of Android Gallery update. In this case wait for a few minutes or reboot the device, otherwise follow the notes of FAQ N.17 to verify the presence of mosaics created into the application folder (in case of corruption of it, mosaics could be lost).
The procedure to create a new photo mosaic may be very heavy (depending on the mosaic type and the photo number). Android could decide to terminate all the processes in the background that are too expensive if it needs to free memory for other applications. For this reason the creation of a new mosaic could sometimes stop without errors.
Look at the "Error List" section that follows to better understand your error and to try to resolve it.
Usually there are two possible reasons: a bug in the App or Android who decided to close the App because there where few resources in the device in that moment. In the first case Google will warn us about the crash, so we can fix it, in the second case try to close the application and restart it, or to restart the device.
It can occasionally happen that the application starts while Android Gallery is busy (for example during a new device scansion of device multimedia resources) and, in this case, it doesn’t have access to all the Gallery resources. Wait for a few minutes than start again the application or reboot the device if the problem is not solved. If the problem persists, it is possible that you have to restore your mediastore information (see FAQ N.10).
Android Gallery may have some problems (the application is slow also also reusing the same photos, I can’t reach all the Albums in the device, and the mosaic is not very good). How can I restore Android Gallery's content?
Go in the Android menu Setting » Application » All, and click on Media Storage. Then click on Data clear and Cache clear. In this way, Gallery will be cleaned and in the next device reboot in a few minutes it will be re-initialized correctly.
The target selected must be always in the device memory and visible by Android Gallery (also in case of target selected with camera or downloaded from internet). Verify that this two conditions are satisfied.
In Very High mode we have deliberately allowed the user to fully customize his/her own photo mosaic. Thus the user has a great responsibility in the successful creation of a new mosaic. We strongly recommend to carefully read the application tutorial and to look at the mosaic examples in the website to fully understand the application’s potentials and be able to exploit them as best as possible. For any questions or suggestions, please contact us by email.
This problem can occur for several reasons. Proceed as follow until the problem persists:
- Try to use Android Micro Thumbnails
- Try to use Android Mini Thumbnails
- Try to restore Android Media Storage (see FAQ N.10). With this operation, Android resources database will be reset (and of course your multimedia resources will be not corrupted!) and in the next reboot Android will restore them correctly. Then retry one time 1 and 2 operation at least once.
- Try to use ZaBa Thumbnails (checking the ZaBa Thumbnails option in Advanced Setting screen).
ZaBa PhotoMosaic requires Android 4.0.3. The device should have at least a RAM memory of 512 MB, a 800 MHz CPU and 0.5 GB of free space in the secondary memory (moreover you need some space to store pictures used as tesseras). Please note that a Standard and High quality mosaic uses 15-40 MB in the internal SD, while Very High quality mosaics can require more than 100 MB. Because of this, we suggest that you transfer mosaics in the external memory or in the PC to prevent internal memory filling (see FAQ 17).
The time needed depends on the hardware resources of your device, on the operating system version, on applications running in that time, and above all on the App setting. These times are those you can obtain using the same Albums more times (the first usage of an Album is slower). The tests have been done with Samsung Galaxy S2, however the time required will be similar for other device models (may be faster in tablet and slower in smartphones with lower hardware resources)
Mode “Standard”: Android Micro Thumbnails (400 photos) 28" Android Mini Thumbnails (400 photos) 1'20" ZaBa Thumbnails (400 photos) 22" Mode “High”: Android Micro Thumbnails (800 photos) 50" Android Mini Thumbnails (800 photos) 2'25" ZaBa Thumbnails (800 photos) 1'50" Mode “Very High”: (default parameters) Android Mini Thumbnails (2000 photos) 4'30" ZaBa Thumbnails (2000 photos) 4'50"
Beyond the number of pictures used, it is also important the color diversity which they present (they should cover the whole spectrum of colors presents in the target image). Usually, following values are sufficient:
Size Good quality High quality 30x30 500 1000 40x40 800 1600 50x50 1200 2000
There are two ways to do this:
- Directly from the device
You have to use a File Manager installed in your device (if you haven't it, we suggest you to install the free "ES File Explorer" directly from Play Store) and you have to go to the application folder at path "/storage/sdcard0/ZaBa Photo Mosaic/Mosaics". Inside you can find all the mosaics created so far (except those deleted by the user).
- From the PC
Connect the device as mass storage to PC and, using the file manager of your operating system go to the application folder at path "/storage/sdcard0/ZaBa Photo Mosaic/Mosaics" where you can find all the mosaics created so far (except those deleted by the user).
- Directly from the device
Yes. It is strongly recommended to use an external memory to save as many photos as possible inside it (by downloading them from the site, from your PC, or the memory of your camera). To save the mosaics in the external SD, you have to select the dedicated parameter in Advanced Setting.
No. The developers’ choice was to block all the application’s processes when the user exits from it (even if Android applications’ logic could have allowed for different results) in order to give the User complete control over the application itself.
We would like to remind you, though, that it is possible to put the application in background (all the processes remain active) in every moment with Android Home button.
Yes. It is necessary to manually delete the application folder "/storage/sdcard0/ZaBa Photo Mosaic". To do it, use a File Manager (like ES File Explorer) or connect your device to PC and use the File Manager of the operating system.
Please, email your request/problem from the Contacts page. We will answer you as soon as possible and, if the message will raise an important issue, we will update the FAQ section with the problem or observation you have pointed out.
ERROR 1. Insert a valid Mosaic Name before creating
You didn’t insert the mosaic name in (TAB1, Menu "NEW MOSAIC").
ERROR 2. Select a Photo Target before creating
You didn’t load a valid photo as Target to create a mosaic (TAB1, Menu "NEW MOSAIC").
ERROR 3. Select at least 50 Photos before creating
You have to select at least 50 photos to make a new mosaic. This choice has been done to guarantee a certain quality of the produced mosaic; in fact with less than 50 pictures there are a lot of repeated images and they are near one to each other, reducing the quality of the mosaic (our experience suggests at least 400-500 photos to have a great result). In "High Quality" mode it is possible to select less than 50 photos, since the user has all the freedom to completely customize his mosaic).
ERROR 4. Elaboration stopped by User
User explicitly stops the elaboration process.
ERROR 5. Error loading Target
Elaboration can not use the photo selected as Target. Verify that the photo is in the device memory, or try to move the target in a different folder.
ERROR 6. Error in Android gallery
Android Gallery doesn’t answer in this moment (probably it is a temporary problem due to multimedia analisys by Android Gallery ). Wait for a few minutes, if the problem persists (maybe try also a reboot of the device) it could be necessary to do a restore of Android Gallery (see FAQ N.12).
ERROR 7. Error creating png
It was not possible to ultimate the mosaic creation. Verify the device has enough free space (high quality mosaic could occupies more than 100 MB).
ERROR 8. Photos number not sufficient
This problem can occur only in "Very High" mode, because of the complete freedom given to the User to set all the parameters (for example, if you select only 100 photos and you don’t allow repetition, of course the mosaic can’t be completed correctly). The missing positions will be replaced with mono-color images of the same color of the corresponding target piece.
ERROR 9. Error in photos elaboration
Error while drawing thumbnails into the photo mosaic. It wasn’t possible to collocate correctly one or more thumbnails. The missing positions will be fulfilled with the same color of the corresponding target piece.
ERROR 10. Number of photos not sufficient and elaboration error
Both Error 8 and 9 occur.
ERROR 11. Mosaic Name must be different from Target Name
Mosaic and Target names must be different to not generate conflict in "VIEW MOSAICS" Menu.
